What are the top Jazz Albums?

OK. The eternal question: Which are the most essential jazz recordings of all time?

The New Yorker's David Remnick takes a stab in a recent article in the online magazine weighted, of course, toward the era of classic jazz. His top five include three albums from the immortal Louis Armstrong (small wonder) plus one each from jazz pioneers Fats Waller and King Oliver.

We're indebted to jazz tipster Ted Nesi for the following link:
http://www.newyorker.com/online/2008/05/19/080519on_onlineonly_remnick
The top five:

1. Fats Waller: Handful of Keys.

2. King Oliver: King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band; The Complete Set.

3. Louis Armstrong: The Complete Hot Five and Hot Seven Recordings.

4. Louis Armstrong: The Complete CA Victor Recordings.

5. Louis Armstrong: Louis Armstrong Plays W.C. Handy.
